Friday Fasts in Eastertide

Alleluia! The Lord is Risen!

Christus Victor.  Christ the Victor.

“Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery” (Heb. 2:14-15) .

Mankind has been and is enslaved to powers beyond our control, both personally and corporately.  Christ’s death isn’t merely about me and my salvation. It’s about the redemption of the cosmos: “He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him” (Col. 2:15).

It seems appropriate in this most joyful season of remembering Christ’s triumph, the harrowing of hell, His Resurrection, and numerous appearances to many in this forty-day season after, to deeply desire all that the Paschal mystery means to be coursing through the life the the Church, Christ’s body.

In today’s fasting/abstinence intentions let us pray for the healing of the Church, her wounds, her divisions, and her internal strife.

For the Unity of God’s People

O GOD, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, our only Saviour, the Prince of Peace;
Deliver thy Church, we beseech Thee, from all prejudice and contention,
and whatsoever else may hinder us from godly union and concord;
That, as there is but one body, and one Spirit, and one hope of our calling;
one Lord, one Faith, one Baptism, one God and Father of us all,
so we may be all of one heart and of one mind,
united in one holy bond of truth and peace, of faith and love;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Alleluia! Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us.

Therefore, let us keep the Feast! Alleluia!

Paschal blessings,

Fr. Wayne
