Lent – The First Friday, and St. Matthias

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Here is another Lenten prayer (structured for use with Anglican prayer beads):

Cross
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
Both now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Invitatory Bead
Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy upon me. (3X)

Cruciform Beads
(But) By Thy intercessions purify Thou me from all abomination.
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy upon me, a sinner.

Weeks
Open unto me the gates of repentance, O Giver of Life.
For my spirit goeth early to the Temple of Thy holiness,
Coming in the temple of my body, wholly polluted,
But because Thou art compassionate purify Thou me by the compassion of Thy mercies.
Guide me in the paths of salvation, O Lord,
For I have profaned myself with coarse sins
And consumed my whole life with procrastination,

O ALMIGHTY God, who into the place of the traitor
Judas didst choose thy faithful servant Matthias to be
of the number of the twelve Apostles; Grant that thy Church,
being alway preserved from false Apostles, may be ordered
and guided by faithful and true pastors; through Jesus Christ
our Lord. Amen.
