The Great O Antiphons of Advent

Dear Brethren,

Today is the last of the Advent Ember Days.  Our first day of praying the hours went very well. Here are the next two days of the Antiphons.  May the Lord use this Advent Season to truly shape our hearts and lives.

17 December (O Adonai – Lord)

O Adonai and Leader of the house of Israel, who appearedst in the Bush of Moses in a flame of fire, and gavest him the law in Sinai: Come and deliver us with an outstretched arm.

Isaiah 11:4-5

But he shall judge the poor with justice, and shall reprove with equity the meek of the earth: and he shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips he shall slay the wicked. And justice shall be the girdle of his loins: and faith the girdle of his reins.

18 December (O Radix Jesse – Root)

O Root of Jesse, which standest for an ensign of the people, at whom kings shall shut their mouths, to whom the Gentiles shall seek: Come and deliver us, and tarry not.

Isaiah 11:1
And there shall come forth a rod out of the root of Jesse, and a flower shall rise up out of his root.
